Perched on the shores of Lake Erie, Marblehead Escape is a thoughtfully reimagined vacation home designed as a retreat for a cherished long-time client. This marks the fifth collaboration with the family, a testament to the trust and creative synergy we’ve built together over the years.
The project began with a comprehensive renovation of an existing home, transforming it from dark and dated to an elevated light-filled coastal haven. Every detail was driven by our client’s desire for a functional, welcoming space where extended family can gather and unwind against the backdrop of the lake.
The new floor plan prioritizes views, flow, and comfort. We thoughtfully relocated the primary bedroom to the lake side, enhancing both privacy and sweeping water vistas. The former high-volume foyer was enclosed to create an additional bedroom, seamlessly maximizing accommodations without compromising the home’s airy sensibility. The barren space above the garage was transformed into a bunk room. In the Great Room, the fireplace was removed in favor of a dramatic wall of windows, inviting the expansive lake views to become the focal point and flood the interiors with natural light.
A key addition, the screened porch, extends the living space outdoors, offering a breezy, protected area to relax, dine, and take in the waterfront setting. Ample seating solutions upholstered with durable materials were a priority, ensuring the home comfortably serves large family gatherings for years to come.
The material and color palette draws directly from the surrounding landscape, reflecting hues of sand, driftwood, and water. From construction finishes to custom furnishings, textures are soft, organic, and timeless, embodying a refined coastal aesthetic that feels equally sophisticated and serene.
